I haven’t really thought about Kate Spade since I carried her iconic nylon tote in college. It was a must-have and literally, everyone did. I honestly don’t think I’ve bought a single thing since. Maybe the odd stationary and or some earrings, but that’s about it… her things are a little too bright even for me (shocking). However, when I read in Vogue that she was starting a new collection, I was intrigued. Spade and her husband, Andy, as well as two other ex- Kate Spade (the brand) alums have founded Frances Valentine, expected to hit stores any day. It’s a tight collection of bags and shoes that the founders describe as “simply modern.” The shoes are colorful and a little quirky, I think reminiscent of the Kate Spade of yore. All are produced in Italy or Spain, so the price points are a better/best client– $275 for Mary Jane espadrilles to $625 for snakeskin sandals with a jeweled heel. The bags, which include bucket shoppers and envelope clutches (presumably no nylon in sight) will be $275- $775. Frances Valentine will be sold at Bloomingdales, Nordstrom and Shopbop as well as Frances Valentine online. Here are a few of my favorites:
